First Responders are designated persons specifically trained to respond to emergency situations as determined by the Municipality of Arundel’s Emergency Response Plan.

First responders are local residents who rotate on an availability schedule to ensure that there is always an officer available to attend an incident. The first responder is, in most cases, the first person to arrive at the scene. Their role is to accompany the victim until regional or sub-regional emergency services arrive.

Calls for service to first responders come from the ambulance dispatch center (911).

The goal of establishing a first responder service in our village and region was to significantly reduce the time required to provide primary care in an emergency.

Through rapid response, the first responder assesses the victim’s condition and stabilizes them to prevent any deterioration in their vital conditions while waiting for the ambulance or doctor to arrive.

The intervention of the first responder ends when the paramedic team is able to take over. However, there may be situations where the first responder is called upon to assist the paramedics.
