Bilingual Status

Arundel acts to retain bilingual status

Update – December 12, 2022 – Bilingual Status | The Municipality of Arundel is proud to announce that it has received confirmation from the Office québécois de la langue française that its bilingual status is maintained.

On December 12, 2022, the Office gave us written notice of demolinguistic data in accordance with section 29.2 of the Charter, whereas less than half of Arundel’s residents are native English speakers. The municipality was given 120 days from receipt of the notice to pass a resolution requesting that it maintain its bilingual status.
On January 24, 2023, Council unanimously passed a resolution requesting that the bilingual status of the municipality be maintained as essential to the character of the municipality and as a testament to the historical presence of both the English and French communities in the municipality.
