Municipal Elections 2017

Dates to remember:

  • The advance poll will be held on Sunday, October 29th, 2017, from 12:00 to 8:00 pm.
  • The official polling day is Sunday, November 5th, 2017, from 10 am to 8 pm.

Requirements to be a voter

  • Being 18 years old;
  • Being a Canadian citizen;
  • Not being under curatorship;
  • Not being under any voting disqualification pursuant to section 53, that is, not being convicted of an offense constituting a fraudulent electoral maneuver;

And

  • Meet one of the following two conditions:
  1. the person has been domiciled in the territory of the municipality and, for at least six months, in Québec;
  2. the person has been, for at least 12 months, the owner of an immovable or the occupant of a business establishment, within the meaning of the Act respecting municipal taxation (chapter F‐2.1), situated in the territory of the municipality.

Notice to sole owners of an immovable and to the sole occupants of a business establishment who are not already entitled to be registered on the voters list as a domiciled person, that you may be registered on the municipal list of electors for the current election in accordance with the conditions set out below:

  1. Being 18 years of age on November 5th, 2017;
  2. Being a natural person of Canadian citizenship and not being in curatorship on September 1st, 2017 and, on that date, have not been convicted, during the past five years, of an offense constituting a fraudulent electoral maneuver;
  3. Be the sole owner of an immovable or sole occupant of a business establishment located in the territory of the municipality for at least 12 months on September 1st, 2017;
  4. To have sent a “Request for Registration” to the list of electors by October 23rd, 2017, to the municipality, at the address indicated below.

Notice to undivided co-owners of an immovable and the co-occupants of a business establishment who are not already entitled to be resgistered on the voters list as a domiciled person, sole proprietor of an immovable or sole occupant of a business establishment, that you may be registered on the voters list for the current election by complying with the conditions set out below:

  1. being 18 years of age on November 5th, 2017;
  2. Being a natural person of Canadian citizenship and not being in curatorship on September 1st, 2017 and, on that date, have not been convicted, during the past five years, of an offense constituting a fraudulent electoral maneuver;
  3. Being an undivided co-owner of an immovable or co-occupant of a business establishment located in the territory of the municipality for at least 12 months on September 1st, 2017;
  4. Have been designated by a ”Power of attorney” signed by the majority of co-owners or co-occupants who are electors on September 1st, 2017;
  5. To have sent to the municipality, at the address indicated below, a ”Power of attorney” no later than September 1st, 2017;

Please note that:

  • The application for registration or the power of attorney transmitted after the filling of the list of electors but not later than October 23rd, 2017, shall be considered as an application to amend the municipal list of electors;
  • Any elector who is entered on the list of electors in a manner other than a domiciled person and who so requests in writing may vote by mail;
  • Any written request to vote by mail must be received at the office of the returning officer no later than the last day fixed for making an application to the board of revisors, that is, October 23rd, 2017.
